Billur Tansel’in küratörlüğünü yaptığı “Mitler ve Hayaller” Sergisi çerçevesinde organize edilen etkinlikler sergide eserleri yer alan sanatçı Bengü Karaduman’ın “Hizaya Gelmek – Hizadan Çıkmak” performansı ile devam ediyor.

7 Ocak Cumartesi günü saat 14:00’te Elgiz Müzesi’nde yapılacak olan performans sınırlayıcı bir düzenin kurgulanmış yapısından kurtulmak için karşı tepki yaratmakla ilgili.

Kurulu düzene uyum sağlamaya çalıştıkça, ortamın ve parametrelerin değişiyor olması bizi ayrıca zorlar.

Sürekli yeniden tanımlanan gerçekliğe uyumlanmaya çalışmak bir süre sonra anlamını yitirir. 

Ancak bu değişken ve değer ürtemeyen yapı, aynı zamanda özgürleştirici bir dürtü için itici güç sağlayabilir.

Performans sapmamamız gereken yoldan sapmak ve kendi yolumuza gitmek için bir deneme.

Elgiz Koleksiyonu

Elgiz Koleksiyonu’nda yer alan eserde; video heykelinin temsil ettiği beden, insan yapısı (sandalye) ve doğal olan (örümcek) arasında salınmayı simgeliyor. İşin teması, şartlar değiştikçe bir biçimden diğerine dönüşmek ve melez bir beden olarak dengeyi bulmanın çabası.

Sanatçı Izniyle

Sanatçının izniyle sergide yer alan video performans; beden, devinim ve dönüşüm temaları üzerine kurulu video performansı, iki varlık (örümcek ve insan) arasında salınan hayali bir bedeni esas alıyor. Değişen şartlar ve çevresel faktörler içerisinde bir biçimden diğerine dönüşmek ve melez bir beden olarak yeni bir denge kurma çabasını temsil ediyor.

İşin temelini oluşturan düşünce, dönüşme arayışımız ve bunun kaçınılmaz oluşu.

İçinde olup bir parçası olmak yerine, sınırında dolaşıp ziyaret ettiğimiz butik bir yer haline gelen doğaya ne tam olarak aitiz ne de bağımız henüz tam olarak kopabildi.

Hayvana mı daha yakın insan, yoksa sentetik parçalarla (protezlerle) veya genetik müdahalelerle yükseltilen yarı biyolojik – yarı teknolojik bir bedene doğru hareket eden bir varlık mı?

Arada kalmışlığın zorladığı bu arayışta yeni bir kimlik, yeni bir insan olma halini keşfetmeye yönelik bir eskiz olan video performansında kolaylıkla yapılan bir dönüşümden ziyade iki beden arasında gidip gelen ve henüz sonuç alamayan bir gayreti izliyoruz.

Bengü Karaduman Hakkında

(1974, Hildesheim - Almanya), Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi Sahne ve Kostüm Tasarımı’nın ardından Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar’da (Saar Sanat Akademisi) Yeni Artistik Medya eğitimi aldı.

Bilinçli ve bilinçaltı deneyimlerinden beslenerek dünyanın ekonomik, sosyal, politik, sistem ve mekanizmalarını anlamlandırmaya çalışır. Gerçeklerin nasıl inşa edildiği ve bunun orta yerinde bulunan birey ana temasıdır. Üretme metodu, gözlemlemek, biriktirmek, parçalarına ayırmak, deşifre etmek ve tekrar birleştirmektir.

Enstalasyonları video, 2 & 3 boyutlu animasyon, performans, desen ve ses gibi medyalar üzerine kuruludur. Ayvalık’da yaşıyor ve çalışıyor.

BILLUR TANSEL HAKKINDA

Billur Tansel Virginia, ABD’de Mary Washington Üniversitesi ekonomi/ felsefe bölümlerinde çift anadal, Sorbonne Üniversitesi’nde ‘A Pre-Study For Turkey As A New Qualified Industrial Zone’ teziyle MBAIP ve Yeditepe Üniversitesi görsel iletişim tasarımı bölümünde “Study And Analysis of the Traditional Aesthetics in Art As Opposed to the New Aesthetics in Digital Art” tezi ile yüksek lisans derecelerini tamamlamıştır. 2006- 2020 seneleri arasında Yeditepe Üniversitesi Iletişim ve Güzel Sanatlar Fakültelerinin farklı bölümlerinde öğretim görevlisi olarak sanat felsefesi ve sanat yönetimi alanlarında ders vermiştir. Casa Dell’arte ve 44A sanat galerileri direktörlüğü ve Casa Dell’arte Art Hotel Sanat Direktörlüğü görevlerinde bulunmuştur. 2008 senesinden günümüze çeşitli kurumlarda bağımsız sergi küratörlüğü yapmış, çeşitli mecralarda ve sanat kitaplarında yazılar yazmıştır. 2011-2014 yıllarında Elgiz Çağdaş Sanat Müzesi, 2019-2020 seneleri arasında Doğançay Müzesi Direktörlüğü görevlerinde bulunmuştur. 2016 senesinde Açık Diyalog Istanbul’u kurmuştur. 2019 senesinden beri Akbank Sanat ile iş birliği içinde “Çağdaş Sanat ve Küratörlük” Programlarını yürütmektedir.

ELGİZ MÜZESI HAKKINDA

Elgiz Müzesi, 2001 yılında Türkiye’nin ilk çağdaş sanat müzesi olarak koleksiyoner Sevda ve Can Elgiz tarafından kuruldu. Çağdaş veya güncel sanat üzerine devlet veya vakıf müzelerinin olmadığı dönemde, ülkenin eksiğini gidermek ve çağdaş sanatın gelişmesini sağlamak misyonuyla hareket eden Proje4L, kar amacı gütmeyen, özel bir girişim olarak, uluslararası kimliği ile 2000 m2 alanda halka açılmıştır. Kurulduğu günden itibaren sanatta mesenlik ilkesiyle çok sayıda genç sanatçı ve küratörü bir araya getiren kurum; Türk çağdaş sanatını uluslararası alanda görünür kılan önemli projelere imza attı. Dünyanın dört bir yanından küratörleri, müze direktörlerini, sanatçıları ve koleksiyonerleri buluşturan seminer ve etkinlikler organize etti. 2005’ten itibaren, Elgiz Müzesi kimliği ile çağdaş sanatı ve koleksiyonculuğunu ülkemizde yaygınlaştırmayı bir sorumluluk bildi. Özel bir koleksiyon müzesi olan Elgiz Müzesi dinamik ve avangard sergilere, eğitim ve sosyal programlara ev sahipliği yapmaya devam ederken daimi koleksiyon alanında ise Elgiz Koleksiyonu’nu ziyarete açtı. 2010 senesinde iki bin metrekarelik terasını; her yıl farklı bir tema ile genç ve deneyimli sanatçılara platform oluşturan açık hava heykel ve land art sergi alanına dönüştürdü. Elgiz Müzesi, 2013 senesinde “ARCO Madrid A International Collection” Ödülü, 2014 senesinde (ÇAĞSAV) Çağdaş Sanatlar Vakfı Onur Ödülü’ne layik görüldü. Global Private Museum Network’un kurucu üyesi ve Uluslararası Müzeler Konseyi (ICOM) üyesidir.

Event: Artist Performance: Walking the Line – Stepping out of the Line

Artist: Bengü Karaduman

The events organized in the framework of the exhibition “Myths and Dreams”, curated by Billur Tansel continue with the artist Bengü Karaduman’s performance entitled “Walking the Line - Stepping out of the Line”. 

The performance, that will take place at the Elgiz Museum on Saturday 7 January 2023 at 2:00 pm, is about creating a counter-reaction to step out of a construction of a limiting order.

As we try to adapt to the established order, the changing environment and parameters become ardous.

Trying to adapt to the constantly redefined reality loses its meaning after a while.

But this volatile structure which produces no value can also provide the impetus for a liberating drive. The performance is an attempt to deviate from the path we are forced to be on and find our own way.

Elgiz Collection

The video sculpture that takes part in the Elgiz Collection is an imaginative body oscillating between man-made (chair) and natural (spider). It is an act  of being in one form and changing to another as circumstances change and finding a balance as a hybrid body.

The video performance, that takes part in the exhibition with the courtesy of the artist, is an imaginative body oscillating between two entities (the spider and the human) and is based on the body, its movement and transformation.
It symbolizes being in one form and transforming into another as circumstances and the environmental factors change. It is an effort to search for a balance as a hybrid body.

The main idea of this work is the pursuit of transformation and the unavoidability of it.

We wander at the margins of nature which became a boutique site we visit; instead being a part of it. We are no longer a part of nature nor has the bond been completely severed.

Is the human closer to being an animal or rather an biological – half technological being enhanced by synthetic parts (protheses) and genetic interference?

İn the video performance we encounter a quest for a new identity, a new way of being which is forced by this  in-betweennes. The oscillation is not a metamorphosis made with ease; we look at an intentness which has not yet resulted.

About Bengü Karaduman

Karaduman (1974, Hildesheim - Germany) studied Stage & Costume Design at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts followed by New Artistic Media at Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar (Fine Art Academy Saar).

She collects her material both from conscious and subconscious experiences to make sense of the world and its economical, social, political systems and mechanisms. How realities are constructed is the thematical main thread in her work as well as the individual in the midst of it. Her method is to observe, collect, dismantle, decipher and assemble again.

Her installations are based on media such as video, 2D & 3D computer animation, performance, drawing and sound.

She lives and works in Ayvalık.

ABOUT BİLLUR TANSEL

Billur Tansel is an instructor, independent curator and writer that specialises in Contemporary Art. After finishing the French High School Pierre Loti in Istanbul, she graduated from the University of Mary Washington in Virginia, USA and obtained two majors in economics and philosophy. She then received a joint MBA degree from the Sorbonne and Dauphine Universities. In 2006, Tansel started her career as an academician at the Department of Visual Communication Design in the Faculty of Communication at the Yeditepe University. This is where she also completed her second master’s degree in visual communication design with the thesis entitled “Study And Analysis of the Traditional Aesthetics in Art As Opposed to the New Aesthetics in Digital Art.” She has taught Art Philosophy in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Yeditepe University between the years 2006 and 2020. Besides being an academician, Tansel has been actively enrolled in the art scene as the

director of reputable art galleries in Istanbul, such as Casa Dell’Arte and 44A, she also worked as the Art Director of the Casa Dell’Arte Art Hotel in Bodrum. She has curated several exhibitions in Turkey. Her articles have been published in art magazines and books. Between 2011-2014, Tansel has worked as the Director and Curator of Proje4L/ Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art in Istanbul. She is the founder and Director of Open Dialogue Istanbul.

ABOUT ELGİZ MUSEUM

The Elgiz Museum Istanbul was founded by collectors Sevda and Can Elgiz as the first contemporary art museum in Turkey in 2001. As, at that time, no other public contemporary art museums and/or foundations existed; this privately-owned, internationally recognized, non-profit institution, that was expanded on a 2000 m2 space, took on the mission to support the development of contemporary art. Since its foundation, the space functioned as an experimental art platform for young, up-and-coming artists and curators. It has carried out important projects that brought together many young artists and curators with the principle of patronnage in art and made Turkish contemporary art visible in the international platform. The Elgiz Museum Istanbul houses the family’s collection in the permanent collection section and hosts dynamic, avant-garde, temporary exhibitions in the other section, and holds educational programs. Elgiz Museum Istanbul, has transformed its two thousand square meter terrace into an open-air sculpture exhibition area in 2010, and has been calling the young sculptors with a different theme every year. In 2013 the Elgiz Museum Istanbul was given the ARCO “A” Award for International Collection and in 2014 received the Turkey’s Contemporary Arts Foundation Honour Award. It is also a founding member of the Global Private Museum’s Network (GPMN) and a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
