Iron Rings Melted in the Sky
Exhibition dates: 01. 03. 18 - 28. 04. 18
Curator: Ferhat Özgür
The Elgiz Museum is hosting a new exhibition curated by Ferhat Özgür in March-April. The exhibition takes its title from a phrase repeated from time to time in Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs. Dalloway: “Rings of Iron Melted in the Sky”.
The phrase “Rings of Iron Melted in the Sky” in Woolf's novel, which uses symbols to create a connection between characters, is repeated over time in the novel, functioning as an intermediary that helps connect different characters and perspectives. This phrase, which gradually becomes the leitmotif of the novel, serves a similar function in the exhibition, corresponding to each participant's personal motto. Thus, the transitional sentence in the novel emphasizes the diversity of materials in the exhibition, ranging from painting to object-based installation, video to photography, and approaches the political and cultural transformations we are going through from an inter-geographical perspective.
Organized in collaboration with the Austrian Cultural Office, the exhibition will be on view in our mezzanine space from March 1.
