In the Elgiz Museum's Temporary Exhibition space, a selection from the collection titled İZ 14 will be on view. Curated by Billur Tansel, the exhibition will feature two- and three-dimensional works and video art that have left their mark on the collector, marking the museum's 14th anniversary.
For centuries, different eras and artists have come and gone from the earth; some have left deeper traces behind them, some have quietly disappeared into the ranks of the vanished. Whether they were more visible, more audible, or quietly came and went, each of them had a significant impact on the cultures of the past and present. Collectors have also contributed to the sustainability of these effects with the artefacts they have added to their collections. They have given them a different value and meaning.
If we consider that the preservation and transmission of cultural textures to the next generations is to a large extent possible through these traces, art should be the medium that can carry these common cultural thought forms or traces in the most just way. This exhibition brings together the history of art, the artist, the buyer and the viewer.
In this context, there is no doubt that collectors who assume the responsibility of sharing their collections play an important role. In the İZ 14 selection, it is seen that some of the works that a collector has brought together in his collecting adventure continue to maintain their importance and special place despite the years and his changing taste. It promises visibility and immortality by exhibiting the works of artists who have left their mark on the Elgiz Collection over time in a public place.
The artists of the artworks in this exhibition that embellish a collector's dreams, influence their choices and leave a mark on them:
