“The Poetry of Space” Abdurrahman Öztoprak and His Contemporaries

Exhibitions

Artist Abdurrahman Oztoprak

Curator: Dr. Necmi Sönmez

Abdurrahman Öztoprak (1927-2011), considered as one of the most important representatives of Modern Turkish Art, appeared before art lovers with one of his rare exhibitions.

The exhibition titled 'Poetics of Space: Öztoprak and His Generation' is an event that marks many firsts in our country. In this exhibition, which was produced by Dr. Necmi Sönmez, Öztoprak's works were exhibited together with post-1945 abstract paintings borrowed from the collections of Germany's world-renowned 'Museum Folkwang', 'Josef Albers Museum' and 'Kunstmuseum Bochum' museums.

For the first time in Turkey, the Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art exhibited the paintings of a Turkish artist side by side with the works of European colleagues of his generation from the same period, opening the doors to a new interpretation of Modern Art History.

On December 13, 2007, in a concert given by the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, Beethoven's music was dedicated to Abdurrahman Öztoprak, and at the same time, the artist's works were exhibited throughout the concert in Lütfi Kırdar Concert Hall, bringing notes and colors together.
