Broken Dreams

Exhibitions

From Wuhan to Istanbul:
BROKEN DREAMS,2020
year celebrations, the Elgiz Collection met with the audience with its new selection, Broken Dreams, which proposes individual questioning of the new experiences and definitions brought about by the pandemic process that has recently affected the whole world.
The viewer is first greeted by Thomas Struth's Pedestrian Intersection, Wuhan. Coincidentally, this virus originates from Wuhan. After Struth's photograph of Wuhan - perhaps because our eyes are used to seeing it recently - Nan Goldin's Red Sky from My Window, which focuses on the search for identity and experience, catches our eye. While Hakan Gürsoytrak's Meeting makes us rethink the place of digital media in our lives in the age of global capitalism, Hale Tenger's Self-portrait and Hande Şekerciler's sculpture From the Depths of My Heart, which leave traces of her own life in their productions, tell us about different ways of not listening to ourselves in this chaos. Wang Xiaoshuang's City of Memories No.5, which reveals the deep silence of emptied cities, and Sarp Kerem Yavuz's Account with the figure of two hands, which draws attention with its neon works, harbor the story we are all familiar with behind its shiny face.

Broken Dreams is an inner journey where artists from different countries and time periods come together through different mediums. The titles of the works in the exhibition alone tell us that we are not alone in our feelings during the pandemic and remind us of our experiences one by one.

The viewer will rediscover the ways of coexistence on this path where they face their anxieties by listening to their inner voice!
